Description

Warehouse automation in the motor vehicle aftersales business is a popular topic; we’ve covered it in Focus Days and conference sessions for the past few years. This presentation and discussion session will change formats – Ducker Carlisle will share automation and material movement strategies from other warehousing organizations and then the group will discuss (and perhaps debate!) the pros and cons, and their applicability to our industry. Historically, changing storage locations to reduce travel time (though only applicable up to a certain point) or installing solutions such as conveyors or wire-guided tuggers (though often the systems are fairly inflexible) have been the most popular options shared. In the last few years, we’ve added discussions on ASRS and other fully automated systems that are more flexible. Other industries (often with simpler parts) are more automated. Why? How? What’s transferrable to aftersales? This session will seek to find answers in discussion with OEMs.
