Service Level Optimization
Description

As motor vehicle OEMs face sustained cost pressure, rising diesel prices, and transportation volatility, service level optimization has become a critical aftermarket supply chain priority. This breakout session will examine how OEMs are reassessing delivery promises, network design, and customer support models to reduce costs without materially compromising service. The discussion will focus on practical actions companies can take in an early-recession environment, including adjusting delivery cut-off times, rethinking next-day expectations, refining parcel and LTL strategies, and identifying where service level reductions are viable. The session will also challenge whether traditional metrics such as fill rate still tell the full story. Is moving from 96% to 98% fill always worth the added inventory and transportation cost? Or should OEMs place greater emphasis on total customer support, promise-date accuracy, and balanced inventory investment? With several OEMs already considering or implementing these changes, this session will offer a timely forum for peer discussion and practical insight on aligning service levels with today’s economic reality.
