Our NAPB MetricWatch data shows that, on a monthly basis, many OEMs saw a 10-12 point swing in system fill over ~9 months during 2022. Some OEMs, however, didn’t see a decline at all. We will discuss the approaches that participants used to avoid fill loss or recover fill throughout the supply chain crisis. Tactics can range from solving the problem with spending, to having excellent forecasting, to relying on parent company support, to blocking parts aggressively, or to improving accuracy of system inputs. We will highlight some stories that focus on solving a problem before it arises (think Toyota’s “overstock” of microchips they created after the 2011 Fukushima disaster), but any stories of interesting policy changes are fair game!
