Be honest: have you blamed the cross-dock lately? When we ask OEMs about why their damage rates are so high (in particular) or why order response times slip, we usually hear “it’s the cross-dock.”
OEMs typically use cross-docks to reduce costs - through consolidating many fragmented freight movements into fewer, larger freight movements, lowering warehouse touches and expenses, or allowing for lower-cost transportation modes such as truck load. The downside is that OEMs using cross-docks may see increased damages or order response times. A significant portion (we will benchmark this) of your freight – both inbound and outbound - goes through these facilities, and many OEMs lose complete visibility into the details of what is going on with them. Through case studies and survey results, This session will cover:
• Knowledge about what goes on at the cross-dock
• Benefits and challenges attributed to the cross-dock
• OEMs success stories
• Measuring outcomes at the cross-dock such as quality and productivity
